Nakita crouched quietly in one of the many bushes surrounding Zebraa Lake. She watched carefully as the antelope slowly gathered around the lake. She watched a baby antelope that curiously separated from its mother and began playing with another baby antelope. Nakita's muscles then tensed, and she began to slowly move out from her hiding place. The antelope suddenly stood at alert and sniffed the air. Nakita surged forward and swiftly ran toward the baby antelope. The antelope took off fleetly, as Nakita closed in on the young antelope. She surged forward and jumped at the antelope's throat, cutting his air. She then dragged the antelope into the shade of the bushes...

Machaki watched as Nakita dragged the antelope into the bush. She narrowed her amber eyes and watched Nakita carefully, scanning the horizon, swishing her tail. Her golden-brown coat blended into the long grass, and she shifted her weight from one leg to the other and stretched her hind legs out. The muscles were getting stiff and she was breathing heavily. The hot sun beat down on her back as if it was never going to stop. Machaki slowly got to her feet, shook the dust from her coat, and padded forward slowly and quietly. The growl erupted from her throat before she could stop it. Nakita's head shot up and Machaki's golden fur bristled. She stood her ground, waiting for Nakita to attack. Words: 123 Comments: A bit short, but heck, who cares?

Nakita let out a low growl and her fur bristled. She swished her tail. Angrily, Nakita sprang forward and with claws outstretched struck a blow to Machaki. Angrily, she growled loudly...

Machaki jumped back, her cuts stinging. If she want's to play rough, I'll play the same, Machaki thought grimly, before unsheathing her claws and springing at Nakita, hoping to strike, but she soared past the lioness and landed lithely on the other side. She growled and sprang again, hoping to strike a blow.

Nakita jumped back, swishing her tail. With a low growl, she turned and walked away. A few yards away, she stopped, sat down, and watched Machaki.

Machaki's mind raced. This had almost been a full blown fight, but now the other lioness had wlaked away. "Um...what's your name?" she asked uncertainly. "I'm Machaki." The last part was almost whispered. Machaki hoped for a response. The sun shone down on her back and soaked up the golden colour of her fur until she was sure she was just grey.

"I'm Nakita," she replied. Under the burning sun she sat, still watching Machaki's every move.

Machaki could feel Nakita's eyes drilling into her. She paced restlessly, the sun burning her shoulders and limbs. Her joints ached with every step, yet she could not rest. The planmis strecthed out ahead of. Antelope and gazelle grazed silently, trotting about. The dust stung Machaki's eyes and clung to her coat. The few plants were dying under the intense heat. The summmers were always treacherous with the heat and with the intensely cold winters, Machaki was sure she wouldn't survive. Taking a long gulp of water, she watched geefully as the antelope scattered. "So...wht brings you here?" Machaki asked eventually, looking directly into the blazing sun. The light bore into her eyes, leaving a small blue circle wherever Machaki looked. Her ears twitched as there was a low growl.

Nakita slowly stood up and stretched. She opened her mouth wide and yawned. Nakita carefully made her way to the lake and began drinking, watching the antelope. She looked at the blazing sun. I hope it starts cooling off soon, she thought. Lazily, she went to a bush and lay down, to escape the hot sun that seemed to persist even in the shade. Then she remembered the antelope. "Why don't we share a meal?" she asked, looking at Machaki.

Machaki raised an imaginary eyebrow. Her limbs ached and her stomach shouted for food, but while she was eating she was very vulnerable. What if Nakita attacked her again? Machaki, after much thought, declined the offer. She hid in the bushes and began stalking a lone antelope. Once she had brought it down and eaten her fill, she stepped away for the vultures to eat the remains. Machaki lay down and stared at Nakita, who was eating the other antelope. How easy it would be to bring her odnw now...Machaki though menacingly.

Nakita ate her antelope, but was watching Machaki. After her antelope was only half finished, she looked at Machaki. She felt uneasy under Machaki's stare, and felt vulnerable. She walked a few feet from her antelope and looked at Machaki.

Machaki felt a strange sense of satisfaction as Nakita stopped eating, evidently because of Machaki's presence. Machaki smiled to herself. She shook her head and began to circle Nakita, watching her every move, enjoying it as Nakita's muscles tensed under her coat. Machaki narrowed her eyes to slits, and lunged at Nakita agin, claws out, hoping for a hit.

Nakita growled and whirled around. She dashed away, hoping Machaki would not follow her.

Machaki watched with satisfaction as the other lioness abandoned her prey. Machaki settled down in a bed of dust and ate the antelop, leaving only the bones for the hyenas. She growled, raking three lines in the dust with her claws. She could smell and intruder; a lion that didn't belong in Nazu territory. She bounded off, seeing Nakita return warily to the demolished antelop out of the fcorner of her eye.

Nakita watched Machaki bound off. She flicked her tail, then stealthily followed Machaki at a distance, camouflaging among the golden grasses.
